Why We Gülce
"Surrounded by the stunning deep blue of the Aegean Sea, Gülce’s studio transports you to the ancient city of Ephesus. She's truly mastered how to bring modern flair to ancient techniques."
Gülce is inspired by the historic city she lives in, Kusadasi. It’s on the Aegean coast of Turkey and the home of Ephesus, an ancient Greek city built in the 10th century BC and the Home of Virgin Mary.
Her work draws upon the forms and textures of nature and she constantly finds new ideas from what surrounds her, such as the spirit of the ancient city or the color of the Aegean sea.
After studying Fine Arts Ceramics and Glass Design, she participated in workshops at the famous ceramic artist Daniela Vacca’s studio in Rome to study majolica, earthenware pottery decorated with brightly colored lead glazes best known for naturalistic/whimsical style.
Since then, she has also partnered with Missione Archeologica İtaliana and served as ceramic restorer for Kyma excavation in Italy.
